The State of Ohio Lemon Law At-a-Glance

Code Reference

Ohio Rev. Code Ann. Sec. 1345.71 et seq.

Vehicles Covered under Ohio Lemon Law

Passenger cars, noncommercial motor vehicles, or those parts of any motor home that are not part of the permanently installed facilities used for cold storage, cooking, eating or sleeping.

It’s a Lemon If…

During the first year since the car was delivered or the first 18,000 miles (whichever is earlier), i) there were three or more repair attempts to the same defect; ii) the vehicle was out of service for 30 or more calendar days; iii) eight or more repair attempts were made on different defects; or iv) one or more unsuccessful repair attempts made to a defect that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury.

Time Period for Filing Claims

The Ohio car lemon law requires claims to be filed within five years from the date of the vehicle’s original delivery to the consumer. Time does not toll while you’re involved in arbitration.
